From Left to Right

The Stephen Roth Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism and Racism, the Inter-University Partnership in Russian and East European Studies and the Institute for the History of Polish Jewry and Israel-Poland Relations are happy to invite you to a discussion of the winner of the 2020 National Jewish Book Award in the category of biography: From Left to Right: Lucy S. Dawidowicz, the New York Intellectuals, and the Politics of Jewish History, by Prof. Nancy Sinkoff

Prof. Sinkoff will discuss her new book, the first comprehensive biography of Dawidowicz, a pioneer historian in the field that is now called Holocaust studies. This lecture will focus on Dawidowicz’s view of Polish-Jewish relations, which was informed by her fateful year living in Vilna, Poland in 1938-39, her experience working with refugee scholars at the New York YIVO during the war, and the all-encompassing Cold War culture. These components shaped her historiographic perspective on writing the history of the destruction of East European Jewry.

The lecture will take place online, via Zoom, on March 14, 2021, 18:00 Israel time, 12:00 EST.

Participation in the discussion and receipt of the Zoom link are conditional on registration via the following link.
