מה בתוכנית?

המפגש הראשון 

במפגש הראשון של פורום תתקיים הרצאה של פרופסור דניאל מיקלה מאוניברסיטת מקמסטר (McMaster University) בהמילטון, קנדה.

נושא ההרצאה: "An Ancestral Pattern for Exile in the Aramaic Literature from Qumran".

הרחבה בנוגע להרצאה:

The Hellenistic period presented Jewish communities across the Mediterranean Basin with both exciting opportunities for cultural integration and serious challenges for maintaining   their distinctive Israelite identity. A surprising number of Aramaic works kept in the Qumran library look to two periods from Israel’s ancestral past to work out a pattern for Jewish life that could balance the promises and pitfalls of this situation. Creatively   rewriting inherited stories from the Pentateuch and composing new ones in the same vein, the priestly authors of these works held up for readers figures from the past as living embodiments of wisdom and righteousness, sometimes in contrast to antagonists who   served as negative examples of these attributes. The Qumran evidence suggests that this literature continued to circulate and to be popular among at least some Jewish groups into the Herodian period. However, major ideological shifts under the Hasmoneans may    help to explain the disappearance of many if its constituent works by Late Antiquity.
