Dear Friends,

The great American writer Nicole Krauss is joining our faculty, as writer in residence in the English Department, this Wednesday at Beit Ariela.

If Franz Kafka, Yohanan Ben Zakai, Pablo Neruda and Isaac Bashevis Singer could sit down together for coffee, their conversation would likely sound like a book by Nicole Krauss.

In her novels, Krauss wraps her writing around philosophy, memory, mysticism and the humor of everyday life. The best heir that Saul Bellow and Philip Roth could have hoped for, she has also recently turned her attention to Israel/Palestine in a personal, insightful manner.

The conversation with her will be about the prospects of writing Jewishly--writing at all--in the present moment, on her relationship to Israeli realities as expressed in her work and why she seems to have abandoned rationalism in search of a new form of consciousness.
